# Guide for engineers

This guide is for the engineers who install and maintain Kontala on a site.

## Suggested path

1. [Install the website tag](/docs/data-capture/install-the-website-tag) and allow `https://konta.la` in your Content Security Policy.
2. Wire your consent banner to the tag with [Consent](/docs/data-capture/consent).
The tag treats visitors as consenting unless you tell it otherwise.
3. Tell Kontala who signed in with [Identify visitors](/docs/data-capture/identify-visitors).
4. Declare page types and click types where you know them best, with `pageTracker.pageType()` and `data-ac-event`.
See [Page and click types](/docs/data-capture/page-and-click-types).
5. Keep sensitive parts of your pages out of capture with `data-ac-ignore` and `data-ac-mask`.
6. On Shopify, add the [Shopify checkout pixel](/docs/data-capture/shopify-checkout).

The [tag reference](/docs/developers/tag-reference) lists every attribute, function and cookie.

## Things you do not need to do

- Write a tagging plan before you start.
Pages and clicks are classified for you.
- Re-tag pages already instrumented for another analytics tool.
Kontala can read your [existing data layers and analytics calls](/docs/data-capture/existing-tags-and-data-layers).
- Ship a release to change what is captured.
Settings arrive inside the script, so a change reaches your site within a few minutes.
