Your own return

The SA100 tabs in Kontala - your tax breakdown, employment income, the main return boxes, and the payments on account you will owe.

Last updated 31 August 2026.

The Income Tax screen carries two taxpayers, and the tab row says which is which.

  • The business · SA103 - the trading pages: Trading profit, Computation, Adjustments, SA103 boxes. These are about this organisation's trade.
  • You · SA100 - Main Return, Employment, Tax Adjustments, Your tax breakdown. These are about your own return.

The personal tabs are always there, whatever kind of business you are looking at. A director of a limited company usually still files a Self Assessment - salary, dividends, the High Income Child Benefit Charge - so those figures are shown even though the company itself files a CT600.

Your tax breakdown

Your own SA100 position: what you have been paid, what is taxable, and what the tax on it comes to.

It draws on everything Kontala knows about you across the businesses you belong to, so it is the figure to trust when the trading pages' estimate assumes the business is your only income.

You can also reach it from the account menu as Your tax breakdown.

Employment

Your SA102 pages, one section per job. A director's salary and a sole trader's outside job are both employment income.

Main Return

The SA100 itself: your personal details, the close-company boxes, and income you record outside an employment.

Tax Adjustments

What you owe and when, including payments on account.

This matters most in a first profitable year: the balancing payment for the year and the first instalment towards the next both fall due on the same January day. That is the single biggest surprise in Self Assessment, and this tab shows it before it happens.

If you are exempt - as a director on PAYE usually is - the tab says so rather than showing a blank.

Who can see what

The personal tabs are yours: the endpoint behind them is self-only and carries no permission level, so an employee at a low level can still see their own tax.

The trading tabs need the Tax, Accounting & Users level, because they are the business's books.
