Create a project
How to create a project in Kontala, link it to a contact, and use statuses to keep your project list tidy.
Last updated 20 July 2026.
Every project belongs to one contact, so start by creating the contact if they are not in Kontala yet.
Create the project
- Go to Money In, then choose Projects.
- Choose Add New Project.
- Pick a Contact, or choose Add a new contact.
- Enter a Project Name.
- Set the Status. New projects usually start as Active.
- Add a Contract/PO Number if your client gave you one.
- Under Time and money, you can record a Currency, a Budget in hours, days, or money (leave it as zero if the project has no budget), and a Normal Billing Rate per hour or per day. These are reference details stored on the project.
- Under More options, set a Starting Date and Ending Date if the work has fixed dates, or leave them blank.
- Choose Create new project.
Edit a project
Open Projects and click the project's name. The same form opens with everything filled in: make your changes and choose Save changes. The list shows each project's contact, status, and billing rate, and you can jump around it with the A to Z bar.
Project statuses
A project is Active, Inactive, Completed, or Cancelled. Keep a project Active while costs are still arriving: when you link a bill or expense to a project, the picker offers your active projects. Mark it Completed or Cancelled when the work ends, and everything already linked to it stays linked.
