What Tala can do
Last updated 20 July 2026.
Tala is Kontala's AI accountant, and the first thing you see when you sign in: Tala is the first item in the top navigation and the app's home screen. It greets you with "Hi, I'm Tala" above a prompt box that reads "Ask Tala anything about your books…".
Ask a question in plain English and Tala looks up the answer in your organisation's real figures, so what it tells you reflects your books as they stand.
What Tala can answer
- Invoices - what you have issued and what customers still owe, including overdue amounts.
- Bills - what you have recorded and what remains unpaid.
- Expenses - claims, their approval status, and your spending categories.
- Banking and cash - account balances and transactions, your total cash position, and money in against money out.
- VAT - your VAT periods and the nine-box figures for any return.
- Your accounts - the trial balance, and the ledger transactions behind any account on it.
Tala also knows its way around Kontala, so you can ask how to get something done, for example where to record a supplier bill.
Actions Tala can propose
Tala can draft two changes for you: creating a new expense and approving a submitted one. Both appear as a card in the chat, and nothing happens until you choose Confirm on it. See Tala's action proposals.
What Tala will not do
- It never changes your books by itself, and it cannot file anything to HMRC, send documents, or delete records.
- It only sees your own organisation, at your own permission level. See What Tala can see.
- It is not a substitute for a qualified accountant. For anything with filing consequences, review the figures and check with your accountant; Tala reminds you of the same.
When you are ready to try it, start with Asking Tala questions.
