What Tala can see
Last updated 20 July 2026.
Tala answers from your live books, so it is worth knowing exactly what it can and cannot see. The boundaries are the same ones the rest of Kontala enforces.
Your organisation only
Every lookup Tala makes is tied to the organisation you are signed in to. That scope comes from your sign-in session itself, never from the conversation, so nothing typed in the chat can point Tala at another organisation's data.
Your permission level applies
Tala looks things up as you, through the same permission checks as the matching screens in the app, so it can only read what your own permission level allows.
Expenses are a good example: owners and admins see every claim in the organisation, other members see only their own, and Tala's answers follow the same rule. If a lookup is refused, Tala tells you plainly what it could not access rather than guessing.
Answers you can check
Beneath a reply that used your data, Tala lists the lookups it made, for example "Checked: list_outstanding_invoices". Tala is designed to take every figure it quotes from those lookups rather than from memory, so this line shows you where an answer came from.
Read-only, unless you confirm
Tala's own access to your books is read-only. The only way it can change anything is to prepare a proposal card that you review and Confirm. See Tala's action proposals.
Conversations start fresh
Tala does not keep a chat history. The conversation exists only in the page you have open, and starts again when you leave Tala and come back.
