Why my figures look different

Reasons a Kontala figure might not match what you expected, and how to reconcile it.

Last updated 10 July 2026.

If a number is not what you expected, it is almost always down to which transactions are being counted.

Common reasons

  • Some transactions are flagged or uncategorised. Kontala holds these back until you resolve them, so they are not yet in your totals - review them on your return.
  • The date falls outside the period. Only transactions dated within the VAT period are included.
  • A duplicate was excluded. Kontala flags likely duplicates so they are not double-counted.
  • A source is out of date. If a feed has lapsed, recent transactions may be missing - see Fix a broken connection.

How to reconcile

Fix the cause at the source - recategorise a transaction, resolve a flag, or reconnect a feed - and Kontala recalculates the affected boxes straight away. For the mechanics, see How Kontala works out your figures.

If a figure still looks wrong after that, contact our team and we will help you trace it.
