Add a transaction manually
Last updated 20 July 2026.
Sometimes there is no file to import - a cash payment, a brand-new account, or a single line you missed. You can add a transaction by hand instead.
Add the transaction
- Go to Banking and open the account.
- Choose More, then Add transaction.
- On the New Transaction page, pick Money in or Money out, then enter the Date, a Description and the Amount.
Explain it as you go
The same form includes an Explanation section, because a manual transaction is explained at the moment you create it.
Choose a Type, then fill in the field it asks for - a Category for everyday income and costs, or an Invoice, Bill, or other record to link. Where VAT applies, the VAT field appears, and some types let you attach a supporting document under Attachments.
Choose Add transaction. The line lands on the statement already marked Explained, with a "Manually added" marker, and it also appears under the Manually added tab. For what each type means, see Explain a transaction.
Edit or delete it later
Hover over a manually added line and choose Edit to reopen it, then Save changes. To remove it entirely, choose Delete transaction on the same page.
Only manually added lines can be edited this way - imported lines are corrected through their explanations instead, as described in Correct an explained transaction.
If you have a run of transactions to enter, an import is usually faster - see Import a bank statement.
