Balance sheet

Read your Balance Sheet in Kontala - what the business owns and owes as at any date, with monthly, quarterly, and comparative views.

Last updated 20 July 2026.

The Balance Sheet is a snapshot: what the business owns and owes as at a single date. Go to Reports and choose Balance Sheet.

Choose a view

  • Custom Date - the snapshot at one date. The Date dropdown offers Today, each of your accounting year ends, Opening balances, or a Custom date range.
  • Monthly and Quarterly - the position as at each month end or quarter end in your chosen range, one column per date. Snapshots cannot be added up, so there is no total column.
  • Comparative - two dates side by side with a Difference and Percentage change column. The Comparison type offers Previous month, Previous quarter, Previous accounting year, or Custom.

Read the report

  • Capital Assets shows the Net Book Value of the equipment you own - see What are capital assets?.
  • Current Assets covers money owed to you and money in the bank, less Current Liabilities for what you owe, giving Net Current Assets and Total Assets.
  • Owner's Equity shows how the business is funded, ending in Total Owner's Equity.

The Current Assets and Current Liabilities sections expand and collapse, and clicking a line opens its transactions in Account transactions.

Export and accuracy

Export Report downloads the open tab as a CSV file. As with the Profit & Loss, an amber banner appears while you have unexplained bank transactions - explain them so the figures are complete. See Explain a transaction.
