Quickstart
Kontala starts with Data Capture. One line on your site sends every page view to Kontala, and Analytics turns them into ready-made dashboards.
Before you start
- You need a Kontala organisation and an account in it. Kontala sets up each organisation for you, so if you do not have one yet, book a demo.
- Sign in at konta.la.
- An admin chooses where the organisation's data is stored, on the Where your data is stored page, before any property can collect.
1. Create a property
A property is one website you track.
- Open Properties and choose New property.
- Enter a Name, such as Acme shop. You can change it later.
- Enter a Site ID made of lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. It is stored on every event, and it can never be changed or used again, even once the property is archived.
- Choose Create property.
The property gets its first write key at once, and with it the snippet to add to your site.
2. Add the tag
Copy the snippet from the property's Install card and add it to every page of the site, in the head or the body:
<script async src="https://konta.la/v1/t.js?k=pk_live_..."></script>
The k value is the property's write key.
Copy the snippet from the Install card rather than typing it, so it carries the right key.
If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy, allow https://konta.la in both script-src and connect-src.
See Install the website tag for single-page apps, tag managers and keys.
3. Check that it works
On a test page, add data-debug to the script tag:
<script async src="https://konta.la/v1/t.js?k=pk_live_..." data-debug></script>
Open the browser console and move around the site.
The tag logs every event it captures, and warns you if an event could not be sent.
Remove data-debug when you are done.
4. Turn on what you need
Page views and page signals are captured from the start. Clicks, scrolling, friction, the data layer and Shopify checkout are each off until you turn them on in the property's cards. See Turn capture features on.
5. See your data
Choose Analytics in the menu. Kontala Analytics opens with nine ready-made dashboards, starting with the Overview. See Dashboards for what each one answers.
