Import transactions from a CSV

No bank feed or FreeAgent? Upload a CSV export and Kontala will read your transactions from it.

Last updated 10 July 2026.

If you keep your records in a spreadsheet, or your bank is not yet supported for feeds, you can bring your transactions in as a CSV.

Prepare your file

Export a CSV from your bank or accounting tool. Kontala needs at least:

  • a date column,
  • a description column, and
  • an amount column (with money out as negative, or separate money-in and money-out columns).

Upload it

  1. In Kontala, go to Settings → Connections and choose Import CSV.
  2. Select your file and match your columns to Kontala's fields.
  3. Review the preview, then confirm the import.

Kontala reads the rows, categorises them, and folds them into your VAT position.

Keeping it current

A CSV is a snapshot, so you will need to import again when you have new transactions. For hands-off updates, connect FreeAgent or a bank feed instead.
