What data Kontala reads
Exactly what Kontala accesses from your connected accounts, and what it never touches.
Last updated 10 July 2026.
Kontala only reads what it needs to work out your VAT. Here is exactly what that means.
What Kontala reads
- Transactions - the date, amount, description, and counterparty of money in and out.
- Bills and invoices - where a connected source (like FreeAgent) provides them, so VAT can be matched correctly.
Kontala uses this to categorise transactions, flag anything unusual, and calculate the figures on your VAT return.
What Kontala never does
- It never moves money. Bank connections are strictly read-only.
- It never stores your bank login or card details. Open banking uses secure tokens, not your password.
- It does not share your data for advertising. See How Kontala keeps your data secure.
Your control
You decide what to connect, and you can disconnect a source or delete your data at any time. See Reset your data and Export or delete your data.
