Review your return before filing
Check your VAT figures and any flagged anomalies before anything is submitted to HMRC.
Last updated 10 July 2026.
Kontala prepares your return for you, but nothing is sent until you have looked it over and approved it.
What to check
- The period. Confirm you are filing the VAT period HMRC is expecting.
- The boxes. Review the figures Kontala has calculated - see VAT boxes explained for what each one means.
- The flags. Kontala highlights anything unusual - a possible duplicate, a mis-categorised item, or a missing VAT number. Resolve or dismiss each flag.
Make a correction
If something looks wrong, fix it at the source - recategorise a transaction or update the underlying record - and Kontala recalculates the affected boxes.
When everything looks right, you are ready to file your VAT return. If a figure is not what you expect, see Why my figures look different.
